Venezuela

country in South America

In brief

Venezuela has formally authorized SpaceX subsidiary SpaceX VZ to provide Starlink satellite internet nationwide, granting a general license and seven Ku-band concessions. The move brings service—available since February and used to help restore connectivity after June earthquakes—under Venezuelan oversight, with the government citing wider technology access and digital inclusion as its aims.

Baker Hughes signed an alliance with PDVSA, Lindsayca and Fulcrum LNG to expand Venezuela’s natural-gas infrastructure, and a separate memorandum with New Stratus Energy to support future oil and gas development. The agreements establish a framework for potential projects—not finalized commitments—and any work will require further approvals, including applicable U.S. sanctions authorizations.

Rights groups said Venezuela freed 29 to 39 political prisoners Friday and Saturday after interim government-opposition talks following a Trump-Rodríguez meeting.
